Brooklyn Heights

Welcome to Brooklyn Heights

A waterside, northern Brooklyn neighborhood, Brooklyn Heights is a beautiful and historic area bordered by DUMBO, Cobble Hill, Downtown Brooklyn, and the East River. Considered New York’s first “suburb,” the area derives its name from its naturally elevated position. Hallmarks of this Brownstone Brooklyn neighborhood are quiet, tree-lined streets and grand, historic homes. A pedestrian walkway along the East River, The Brooklyn Promenade, draws locals and tourists alike for its breathtaking views of the Brooklyn Bridge, Downtown Manhattan, and the water. A relatively new addition to the neighborhood, the riverside Brooklyn Bridge Park is a world-class green space offering recreation and respite year round.

Homes

Brooklyn Heights streets are home to large, often palatial townhouses dating to the early 19th century; buildings in the Greek Revival, Gothic, Italianate and Late Victorian style; and even early- and mid-20th century apartment buildings. Clapboard single-family homes and charming brick carriage houses add to the architectural diversity and texture. For luxury rentals and condos with a full slate of amenities and services, look to the northern and western edges of the neighborhood—outside the historic district where development is permitted.

The Lifestyle

A stone’s throw from Manhattan, Brooklyn Heights is an elegant escape from city life that offers a combination of incredible convenience and refined, peaceful surroundings. While Brooklyn Heights offers a singular refuge from urban life, it is simultaneously surrounded by the dynamic and bustling neighborhoods of Downtown Brooklyn, Cobble Hill, and DUMBO, where all the essentials and the finest of everything are close at hand. Named New York City’s first Historic District in 1965—a designation that curbed development and alterations within its boundaries—Brooklyn Heights is architecturally one of the most well-preserved areas of New York City.

I love the tree-lined streets and the graceful historic buildings. The inherent elegance is uplifting and transports one out of the busy zeitgeist Many Brooklyn neighborhoods have changed a lot, but Brooklyn Heights remains remarkably intact to this day. It is the opposite of high-rise Manhattan and evokes the sense of a bucolic past that makes it so charming.
